Summary

Her chestnut hair, long and shiny, fanned around her head, moving gently in the wind。 Her eyes, still open, stared at the back door, and her hand stretched out in a pleading gesture。 Her lips, pale under the rosy lip gloss, were parted slightly as if to whisper one last word, to draw one last breath。

9 HOURS AGO: In a sleepy mountain town, widow Cheryl Coleman stares anxiously out of her kitchen window while a storm rages outside。 When the knock comes, she glances back at her daughters before opening the door with trembling hands…

NOW: Detective Kay Sharp vows to get to the bottom of a heartbreaking murder that has rocked Mount Chester。 A single mother has been brutally killed in front of her three daughters。 The youngest, three-year-old Erin, is lying inches from the body, her pigtails loose, her face tear-stained。 Eight-year-old Heather is discovered hiding under her bed。 Sixteen-year-old Julie is nowhere to be found。

The first twenty-four hours are critical in child abductions, and the girls are the key to saving their missing sister。 But Heather is in shock, unable to communicate, and all tiny Erin can say is “A monster came”。 When Kay finds three suitcases lined up in the hallway, it’s clear that the family were about to run away。 But why? And who were they trying to escape?

Thanks to her own past, Kay knows all about traumatic childhoods shrouded in tragedy, and she works around the clock to get justice for the orphaned girls。 Turning the town upside down, she uncovers the shocking truth about their peaceful community: it’s home to a serial killer who preys on helpless girls。 Faced with the most twisted case of her career, can she catch the monster before another innocent life is lost?

It is told from various points of view; primarily from Kay's and Elliot’s, with some chapters from Julie and her captor。 Kay and Elliot make some intuitive deductions all the while judging what information is relevant or superfluous。 They are skirting their mutual attraction and both are superb characters with history but aren't completely shaped but it。I love Leslie Wolfe's writing style and found it hard to tear myself away from this book。 I am really excited to read more in this series going forward。 It was a pleasure to read The Angel Creek Girls, complete with its terrific, tense final showdown and I highly recommend it。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley。 This review is my own unbiased opinion。 。。。more

We are back in Mount Chester and those who have visited before through the eyes of the author know that, once again, it’s not a walk in the park。 Detective Kay and the rest of the team have their work cut out for them。 Without any clear clues, they do not have a lot to work with, but knowing Kay, she will not rest before she has uncovered every detail there is to uncover。 She is like a dog with a bone。 Nothing will stop her。 No killer is going to run free in her jurisdiction。There are witnesses We are back in Mount Chester and those who have visited before through the eyes of the author know that, once again, it’s not a walk in the park。 Detective Kay and the rest of the team have their work cut out for them。 Without any clear clues, they do not have a lot to work with, but knowing Kay, she will not rest before she has uncovered every detail there is to uncover。 She is like a dog with a bone。 Nothing will stop her。 No killer is going to run free in her jurisdiction。There are witnesses this time。 That should be a big help, but when they are so young and traumatized, the police has to protect them and to tread very carefully。 Although Kay and Elliott are partners, I have the feeling he is less in the picture this time。 No worries though。 He is still more than present enough for the ladies to drool over。 😉 Kay and Elliott work good together professionally。 Will they soon work together as well privately too? Sparks are flying left, right and center, that’s for sure。Whilst working the case, Kay uncovers a lot more than she originally thought。 It’s a very devastating discovery with heartbreaking stories。 The author has created a very disturbed and influential unsub。 She really keeps you entertained and keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat。 5 starsThank you, Leslie Wolfe and Bookouture 。。。more

This book is the third in the series and I have not read the first two, but I thought it could easily be read as a standalone。 Kay is a detective, trying to solve the baffling case of Cheryl Coleman's death and the abduction of her daughter Julie。 She is trying to tease the story out of the two younger children, who are, naturally enough, completely traumatised by what has happened at their home。 So many twists and turns, my heart was in my mouth more than once。 This was a really solid book and This book is the third in the series and I have not read the first two, but I thought it could easily be read as a standalone。 Kay is a detective, trying to solve the baffling case of Cheryl Coleman's death and the abduction of her daughter Julie。 She is trying to tease the story out of the two younger children, who are, naturally enough, completely traumatised by what has happened at their home。 So many twists and turns, my heart was in my mouth more than once。 This was a really solid book and I thoroughly enjoyed it (although some of the characters gave me the creeps - job done, author!)。 Kay was a thorough professional; brave, hard-working and smart, but she was also compassionate and I think it was the combination of these things which endeared her to me。 The bond she has with her work partner, Elliott, was also very sweet and I thought he was a lovely fella as well。The whole story worked, as chilling as the premise of this book was。 Looking forward to reading the next book in the series。4。5 stars from me。Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture。 。。。more

The Angel Creek Girls is the third instalment in the Detective Kay Sharp series set in the fictional town of Mount Chester in Northern California。 Having not long taken up the role of Detective at Mount Chester Police Department, Kay Sharpe has brought her much sought after FBI expertise with her from her days as a Special Agent as well as valuable knowledge from her specific vocation: criminal profiling。 Her hometown has called her back and now transferred she had been expecting, but so far not The Angel Creek Girls is the third instalment in the Detective Kay Sharp series set in the fictional town of Mount Chester in Northern California。 Having not long taken up the role of Detective at Mount Chester Police Department, Kay Sharpe has brought her much sought after FBI expertise with her from her days as a Special Agent as well as valuable knowledge from her specific vocation: criminal profiling。 Her hometown has called her back and now transferred she had been expecting, but so far not receiving, a quieter life after hoping the small town would not have so many murders to solve as the city。 This time, a widow, Cheryl Coleman, has been brutally slain while trying to protect her eldest daughter from being abducted by a male intruder。 The kidnapper manages to make off with 16-year-old Julie and does not seem to have been interested in the other children who still remain present in the house。 It's not until early the following morning that their neighbour calls the police and Kay and colleague Detective Elliot Young are sent out to investigate。 It is then they discover 8-year-old Heather and 4-year-old Erin alone in the house with their mother’s deceased body。 Kay initially believes that Erin is dead too, as she is found curled up beside her mother’s corpse and in a pool of her blood, but she is alive。So not only must they find Cheryl’s merciless killer but also locate and retrieve Julie safely, and they sure have their work cut out for them as clues they come across start to make the case ever more complicated and convoluted。 This is exacerbated by Heather being unable to talk to explain what happened and young Erin maintains that a monster was the one who killed her mother。 And then another body drops。 This is a compelling and absorbing instalment with plenty to keep you immersed and invested in the mystery。 Twists, turns and red herrings abound in this tautly plotted tale ripe with obstacles that make the police’s race against time even more difficult。 They struggle against the turning weather, people in positions of power and influence and those with enough money to buy silence。 I must admit, the will they won't they sexual tension between Kay and Elliot is getting tedious; it's time to either drop it or commit, but I enjoyed the rest。 The plot is unusual, as is the resolution to the case setting it apart from the rest, and the conclusion ties everything up in an explosive, palpably tense and action-packed fashion, topping it all off in style。 Told from Kay and Elliot’s perspectives with a few chapters from Julie and her unidentified captor, this is a compulsive, suspenseful and entertaining police procedural。 。。。more

I really love this series ! Love Detective Kay Sharp! But this book was a bit weird to me compared to the rest in the series with the whole mother nature part。 There is plenty of mystery and suspense and of course Kay Sharp is in it so all that made up for the weird part of the book。 I would still recommend this book and this series。 Leslie Wolfe always makes sure to keep you at the edge of your seat。

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Angel Creek Girls, the third novel to feature Detective Kay Sharp of the fictional Mount Chester, Northern California Police Department。Kay is called to a murder scene。 Cheryl Coleman has been stabbed to death, 4 year old Erin is clinging to her body, 8 year old Heather is hiding under the bed and 16 year old Julie is missing。 Heather can’t talk and all Erin says is a monster did it, so Kay will have to piece it together h I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Angel Creek Girls, the third novel to feature Detective Kay Sharp of the fictional Mount Chester, Northern California Police Department。Kay is called to a murder scene。 Cheryl Coleman has been stabbed to death, 4 year old Erin is clinging to her body, 8 year old Heather is hiding under the bed and 16 year old Julie is missing。 Heather can’t talk and all Erin says is a monster did it, so Kay will have to piece it together herself。I enjoyed The Angel Creek Girls, which has a relatively unusual premise and solution。 It is mostly told from Kay and her partner, Elliot Young’s, points of view with some chapters told from Julie and her captor’s viewpoint。 It is an interesting mix, showing the detectives floundering to keep up with what the reader knows from the other side。 As the captor is never named before the denouement the mystery of who remains, although why becomes abundantly clear early on。 It’s an interesting and unusual motive, although I’m not sure that I buy the practicalities of it。I think I would have liked this novel even more if it had stuck to the investigation only, as the other voices are a bit of a distraction to what is a good story。 I really liked the way Kay and Elliot unravel the case, making intuitive connections and judging what information is useful and what should be discarded。 The final showdown is all it should be, tense and action packed although all that slithering about in the mud gave me shudders。 Yuck, the mess。Kay and Elliot are once again dancing around their mutual attraction。 It’s time to get a room。 Both are good characters with a bit of history and I really like that the author doesn’t define them by it, preferring them to live in the present。 What a welcome approach to characterisation。The Angel Creek Girls is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending。 。。。more

I read the first book in this series in February (this year) and already I’ve just read the third - I don’t know what happened to number 2。 Anyway, the book starts with a rather confronting scene where a widowed mother is killed trying to protect her eldest daughter, 16 year old Julie, from being taken。 The two younger girls - 8 year old Heather and 4 year old Erin are hiding upstairs but hear all of this being played out in the kitchen downstairs。Early the next morning a neighbour calls it in。 Detectives Kay Sharp and Elliot Young catch the case。 It is very confronting, little Erin is sitting in her mother’s blood cradling her。 The neighbours that they interview seem a little off, the old woman seemed to think it was all pre-ordained and the call of the spirit of the earth to some such。 But when somewhat distant relatives finally show up to claim the two young daughters of Cheryl they, too, seem a little off! The detectives are even wondering if some sort of cult is involved but Kay, who is a former FBI profiler, can’t quite pin down a firm profile for this perp。 As the days pass suspicion grows that this is all somehow tied up with one particular family - the Montgomerys。 And the window for finding Julie alive closes inexorably。 This was a tautly plotted story with some interesting twists, nothing terribly original but it was an engaging read nonetheless。 Kay was a wonderful advocate for the two traumatised younger children and managed to coax a little light on what transpired from Heather。 We also got a few chapters from the POV of the abductor who appeared to be quite delusional。 Overall I enjoyed it and will be looking for the next book soon。 I do wonder though why authors feel the need to always include the ubiquitous love interest。 I guess we’re aiming for romantic suspense although the story would have worked just as well without the romance, or the hope thereof。 Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for and advance copy of the book which I have reviewed voluntarily and honestly。 。。。more

I love the Kay Sharp books by Leslie Wolfe and The Angel Creek Girls is the third in the series。 Kay is called to the scene of a murder of a mother and the possible kidnapping of her teenage daughter。 Kay is in a race against time to find out who is responsible for the murder and finding the young girl before it’s too late, especially since there may be a link between this crime and other missing girls in the area。 This was a great book from start till finish, can’t wait for the next book in thi I love the Kay Sharp books by Leslie Wolfe and The Angel Creek Girls is the third in the series。 Kay is called to the scene of a murder of a mother and the possible kidnapping of her teenage daughter。 Kay is in a race against time to find out who is responsible for the murder and finding the young girl before it’s too late, especially since there may be a link between this crime and other missing girls in the area。 This was a great book from start till finish, can’t wait for the next book in this series。 Thank you Netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

Thanks NetGalley and Publisher to the read。 This is the 3rd book in the Detective Kay Sharp series。 Full review when book released, but another good book in this series! It does help to have read the first 2, so if you haven’t done that you have time before this one is released。 :)
